StRUT uses a program called Killdisk to wipe hard drives.

Material beyond repair or donation will be taken to Earth Protection Services Inc. (EPSI) in Tualatin for responsible recycling. The recycler will not wipe hard drives since the material goes directly to a shredder.

If you want to clear information from your hard drive before you recycle, there is software available that clears data from hard drives.
